The Article
System
Handmade rugs in the finest fibers: merino, alpaca, silk and cashmere. Every Bond Street rug carries a three-digit Article number. The first digit gives the fiber series, the second the construction, the third the design.

200 SeriesMerinoFine merino with a soft hand and natural spring, so the pile recovers underfoot.
400 SeriesAlpacaWarm for its weight, with a dry, slightly chalky hand. Most of our ivories.
500 SeriesSilkReal silk, alone or with linen. It takes dye deeply and reflects light across the pile.
600 SeriesCashmereVery fine, very soft, used alone or with silk. Warm, with a dense, close pile.

Flatweave & handwoven10sWoven by hand on a loom, thread by thread. A flat, precise surface that shows the fiber clearly.
Handloomed & hand-looped20sMade on a hand-operated loom, with the pile cut or left in loops. A dense, even pile with a fine, regular texture.
Hand-knotted40sEach knot is tied by hand, row by row, then sheared to height. It takes the longest to make and allows the most detail in pattern and pile.

Featured rug
Pure cashmere, handwoven with an 11 mm cut pile. The pile is dense and very soft, and like any plush cut pile it shades where you walk; a soft brush evens it out.
